6 Lessons I learned from Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story!
Before I share the lessons I learned from this movie, I would like to appreciate the rich igbo cultural display😊it was so beautiful to see! Plus, all the actors delivered!!
Kanayo O Kanayo was still pursuing money🤣, but the difference is this time, he was not into rituals. He was a genuine businessman, a loving father, and an honest man. He absolutely nailed the role!
Stan Nze made me believe that if he steps on an ant, it won't die🤣He embodied Áfàméfùnà, through and through !
The guy who played the role of Young Paul made me feel like I was in a big market in Lagos. He was a thorough nwa boi. Alexx Ekubo had me giving my TV all types of side-eyes, cause I couldn't stand Paul's wicked and greedy ass. He embodied the role perfectly!
Atlanta Bridget almost made me shed a tear towards the end of the movie. When she discovered that her son was actually Paul's, I felt so much pity for her, like it was a real life situation. Sis did justice to that character!
These are six lessons I learned from Áfàméfùnà:
1-It's never too early to teach your children values that you want them to inculcate. Firstly, because you don't know how long you have on earth to spend time with them and teach them. Secondly, because when you teach them young, they will never forget.
Áfàméfùnà's father was a decent man, who was a very honest civil servant. And eventhough he died when Áfàméfùnà was a teenager, Afam carried his words in his heart daily, and they guided him to be an honest man himself.
2- You reap what you sow. Áfàméfùnà reaped good success from doing business honestly. Paul reaped bad "success" from doing business dishonestly, and it led to his death.
3-There's no virtue that comes from greed. Paul was so greedy that he got into business with dangerous conmen, and that was what led to his death. His greed could not even let him reason that his life was dependent on the 5 million Naira that Áfàméfùnà was paying monthly to rescue him from debt. He just wanted more, and that is how he plunged into his doom.
4-To have good success in business, do the business with your head and your heart(instincts).
When those conmen proposed the deal to Odogwu, it was juicy, but it was too good to be true, and he indulged his instincts, which told him that there was something fishy involved. As he said: "if you marry a monkey for it's money, the money will finish but the monkey remains".
5-It's never too late to leave a dysfunctional relationship. Despite the fact that Paul had been exploiting Amaka for many years, and she indulged his antiques for long, she still summoned the courage to leave him. Many women stay in dysfunctional relationships because they think that they have endured for so long, and they keep holding unto the hope for a reward. That reward will come sis, but not necessarily from the man who hurt you. Leave the dysfunctional relationship, so the reward can locate you.
6-Service is not a bad thing. If you have a master/boss, do your work deligently. The way you serve, is the way you will be served. Good things happen to good people.
